Waterfall Hike (9)
The Waterfall Hike is a breathtaking trail in a remote virgin cloud forest inside the Falling Waters Nature Reserve. The trail retraces the steps of Pre-Colombian Indians where they panned for gold in the mysterious pools & extracted clay to make beautiful pottery depicting flora & fauna of that period. The trail surrounds the perimeter of Volcan Baru National Park and parallels the Quebrada La Mina, a gorgeous stream of flowing water that twists & turns through the forest eventually joining with the Rio Caldera. With more than 220 bird species native to the area, including the rare & elusive Resplendent Quetzal, birding opportunities abound. Upon your arrival to the second waterfall you can explore an underground cave and enjoy a picnic at the base of one of Boquete’s most exquisite waterfalls & rejuvenate yourself with an invigorating shower in the falling waters. -

Volcano Hike (5)
The Volcano Hike is for those adventurists up for a real hiking challenge. Volcán Barú is the tallest mountain in Panama standing at 3,474 meters (11,398 ft). It lies about 35 km off the border of Costa Rica. Due to its height and Panama's relatively short width, it is possible to see both the Pacific Ocean & Caribbean Sea on Volcán Barú's peak on a clear day. It is surrounded by a fertile area of cool highlands drained by the Chiriqui & Caldera rivers. The towns of Volcan & Cerro Punta can be found on its western side, while Boquete is on the eastern flank. The occasional fall of hail or ice pellets has been reported on the summit, where the minimal temperature can be below 0°C (32°F) and the formation of frost is frequent during the dry season, so be prepared to get a bit cold, for Panama standards anyway! -
