Since the formation of UMMP we have been sharing "The Starfish Story" with others. "The Starfish Story" is an adaptation of Loren Eiseley's "The Star Thrower". It is a beautiful poignant story about how every one of us can make a difference and it is the philosophy we live by with our volunteer program.

The Story We Live By.
One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a figure in the distance. As he got closer, he realized the figure was that of a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.

Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”

The youth replied, “Throwing the starfish into the ocean. Soon, the sun will be up and the tide is going out. If I do not throw them back, they will die.”

“Son,” the man said, “Don’t you realize that there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You cannot possibly make a difference!”

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the surf.

Then smiling at the man he said, “I made a difference for that one!”

A simple act of kindness can make a difference. Whoever you are. Wherever you are. You can make a difference. For yourself, for your family, for your friends & even for unfamiliar faces.

COMMIT TO BE THE DIFFERENCE TODAY! If not now, when?

“Change the way you see the world and your world will change around you.”

“Be that change you wish to see.”

I first heard this story at a life changing PSI Seminar, to learn more about PSI, please visit them online today!
